You can get free rides in the Virginia Beach resort area

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Virginia Beach has partnered with Miami-based ride-hailing service Freebee to offer Oceanfront residents and visitors a new, free public transportation option.

The move is part of the city’s Resort Area Mobility Plan (RAMP), which calls for improved shared mobility services in the resort area. Virginia Beach will fund free transportation service for a one-year pilot program for $550,000.

Freebee currently operates a fleet of over 100 vehicles, serving over 25 communities in South Florida. Virginia Beach is the first location outside of Florida to provide the service.

Beginning June 17, residents and visitors can cruise the resort area in all-electric Freebee Tesla Model X vehicles seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The pilot program service area extends from Atlantic Avenue to the east, Birdneck Road to the west, 42nd Street to the north and General Booth Boulevard to the south.
