Key West’s award-winning Southernmost Beach Resort has launched an extensive $15 million renovation of its exterior facade, breezeways and 243 guest rooms. This follows the recently completed renovation of the resort lobby, pool and Pineapple Bar, and the addition of an outdoor patio at the Beach Café, creating a completely fresh and modern resort experience.

The renovated Key West island resort, aptly named for its perfectly situated location at the south end of famous Duval Street and complemented by its highly sought-after beachfront location, draws inspiration from the charm, rich history and laid-back Key West vibe. Capitalizing on its historic and organic past that is unique to Key West, Southernmost embraces the island’s heartbeat and personality.

“The complete renovation and renovation perfectly showcases the natural beauty of this renowned Key West destination,” said Sarka Takovich, General Manager of Southernmost Beach Resort. “The light, open, and airy design evokes the laid-back, free-spirited vibe visitors seek out in Key West. You’re immediately transported to the pace of Keys life as soon as you enter your room. That’s why people come here.

Bigtime Design Studios, a Miami-based design firm, has carefully redesigned the rooms at Southernmost Beach Resort, incorporating high-end contemporary furnishings and linens in playful seaside hues.

“We dove deep into the ethos of brand, location and demographics to reimagine the iconic property,” said Callin Fortis of Bigtime Design Studios. “Travellers visiting Key West are looking for a fresh, familiar and exotic touch that can now be found at Southernmost Beach Resort.”

Warm sand tones and muted shades of nautical blue mirror the ombré patterns of the Atlantic Ocean, creating a sense of harmony with the resort’s idyllic setting. Fabric headboards center on a cadet blue paneled feature wall, while various sofa and armchair options in complementary tones and patterns provide space to relax. The architectural elements and beach-inspired look are seamlessly unified by decor, artwork, and wall hangings featuring elements found in a coastal location that blend easily into the decor.

The oversized bedroom bathrooms have not been overlooked in the makeover process. Subway white tiled walls and showers create a bright space, and vanity mirrors and sinks in wood shades and clean lines are offset by turquoise herringbone tiles. Chrome details and contrasting tile patterns in the shower provide an elevated look and feel.

The renovation of Southernmost Resort will be completed with a final phase in 2023, focusing on its four guest houses. In December 2021, two adjacent guesthouses, Avalon and Duval Gardens, were acquired and will be refreshed along with the resort’s existing La Mer and Dewey buildings. Nestled at the end of Duval Street where Old Town meets the Atlantic, Southernmost Beach Resort spans six acres with three palm-lined pools, private cabanas, two beaches, and a secluded sunbathing pier — the perfect outdoor spot for yoga, intimate wedding ceremonies and sunset cocktails. Guests can enjoy live entertainment, cocktail tastings, sip-and-paint lessons, or opt for water activities like snorkeling, eco-tours, kayaking, and paddleboarding just steps from the resort. Three al fresco bars, an exclusive beachfront restaurant, and a full-service spa with beachside massages round out the offerings at this scenic retreat that allow guests to enjoy outdoor paradise.
