Soul Community Planet Acquires Iconic Laguna Riviera Beach Resort, Marking Its First Golden State Expansion

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Planet of the Community of Souls (SCP) today announced the acquisition of the 41-room beachfront resort Laguna Riviera Beach Resort (Laguna Riviera). The historic Laguna Beach hotel marks SCP’s first expansion into California and its sixth hotel overall. The acquisition advances SCP’s plan to expand its footprint in communities that align with SCP’s healthy, caring and green values.

Opened in 1948, Laguna Riviera is located directly on the beach, just two blocks south of downtown Laguna Beach. Described as part of the French Riviera and part of the Mediterranean retreat, the resort offers panoramic coastal views, direct access to surfing and stand-up paddleboarding, and offers a variety of room categories, including from oceanfront studios to large one-bedroom suites, most with full kitchens, private oceanfront terraces, and fireplaces.

“Soul Community Planet’s vision is to make the world around us a better place by serving those who value wellness, kindness and sustainability. The beautiful seaside community of Laguna Beach is an eclectic fusion of Californian art, food and surf culture. It’s also one of the healthiest, kindest, and most sustainability-focused communities we know. As such, we see Laguna Beach as an ideal location for Soul Community Planet, and we look forward to merging SCP’s holistic hospitality with Laguna Beach’s cool California vibe,” said the co-founder and CEO of Soul Community Planet, Ken Cruse. “Our planned hotel renovations are intended to complement the character of Laguna Beach and will be carefully carried out with city and community involvement every step of the way to ensure that our efforts add, rather than dilute, the eclectic authenticity that makes Laguna Beach so special.”

The hotel will retain the Laguna Riviera Beach Resort name while undergoing a planned multi-million dollar renovation and repositioning program. The design effort, led by ELK Collective’s Kelly Ogden, will infuse the hotel with SCP’s “Scandi-boho” design aesthetic, new landscaping and exterior design, and incorporate the distinct characteristics of the SCP brand throughout. . Once the renovations are complete, the hotel will be renamed SCP Laguna Beach. Opening fares at SCP Laguna Beach will start at $250.

SCP announced earlier this year it will become fully vegetarian at all of its locations, achieve company-wide net zero waste, and standardize all of its rooms to its “Peaceful Rooms” design by the end of 2022. These SCP-branded services and programs are scheduled to feature at the new SCP Laguna Beach. SCP Laguna Beach is also set to feature an SCP Grocery Market, which will offer healthy, local, fresh and organic food and beverages, including local craft beer, California wine, kombucha and coffee, as well as local arts and crafts.

Other branded amenities and programs planned:

  • Community – Thanks to SCP’s partnership with Orange County’s miracles for children, each guest staying at an SCP hotel provides 24 hours of electricity to light the home of a family with a critically ill child. Over 340,000 hours of light have been provided through this program to date.
  • Planet – Thanks to SCP’s partnership with A planted tree, each stay at an SCP hotel results in the planting of a tree in an abnormally deforested area. To date, over 40,000 trees have been planted through this program.

net zero waste – SCP Hotels achieve significantly less waste generation than typical hotels through the extensive use of environmentally friendly materials in their renovations, incorporating new energy efficient systems and solar power, food sourced locally and implementing regenerative local composting programs at each property. SCP is committed to eliminating the use of single-use plastic water bottles and utensils and offers guests water refill stations to encourage the use of reusable plastic bottles throughout their travels . SCP is working with EarthCheck for ongoing third-party certification of its Net Zero Waste program.

Communes SCP – The SCP Laguna Beach will house a communal coworking space for the growing number of digital nomads and bleisure travelers looking to successfully combine work and play on the go.
