Niger State Government Lifts Tourism With Liftoff of Shagunu Beach Resort


Niger State Executive Governor Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello’s efforts to boost tourism in the state received a major boost with the decision of a major financial group to fund the project.

The foreign investor’s decision to invest in Shagunu Beach Resort is the result of Governor Abubakar Sani Bello’s foreign investment campaigns in recent times. Speaking along the same lines, Mr. Hakeem Adewale Akintunde, Senior Consulting Managing Director of Marcom Support Services Ltd said that it gladdens the heart that Shagunu Beach Resort has caught the eye of a global financial player, noting that for over three years now, the state government has embarked on aggressive infrastructural development of communities in the area.

He revealed that empirical evidence from the master plan of Shagunu Beach Resort shows that Shagunu will be promoted as a top riverside tourist destination in the Sahara. He said the project which is designed as a public-private partnership on the build-operate-own model aims to put Niger State on the global tourism map while increasing internally generated revenue from the state.

“It is our mandate to market and project this God-given remedy to the outside world and investors in hopes of making the beach the first of its kind in Nigeria and south of the Sahara,” Akintunde revealed.

The beach, located in the widest part of the Niger River, occupies 1000 hectares of land as the river stretches 34 km across the Niger River.
