Kenya’s women’s beach volleyball team will open their campaign against New Zealand on Saturday 30th at the Commonwealth Games Birmingham 2022 which starts on July 28 and runs until August 8.
The Kenyans, ranked third in Africa and 110th in the world, traveled to the Games after the Commonwealth Games Federation confirmed to the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) that Kenya had qualified for the games thanks to the athlete allocation system and team ranking.
Besides New Zealand, Kenya are also grouped in Pool A alongside Ghana, New Zealand and defending champions Canada. Australia, Cyprus, Sri Lanka and Trinidad & Tobago are in Pool B while Pool C features Scotland, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and England.
“Fortunately, we got to watch New Zealand and Ghana and we know a thing or two about how they play.
“We haven’t been able to access the videos of Canada in action, but I know it’s only a matter of time. We have spent a lot of time training here and I hope our efforts will bear fruit,” said head coach Salome Wanjala.
