As part of an ongoing effort to keep guests safe, beach access at Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park will be limited to registered campsites and accommodations on weekends and holidays beginning Saturday, May 28.
Beach access will continue to be available to unregistered park guests on weekdays only.
In consultation with national and local authorities, the decision has been made to continue this safety effort for an additional season due to continuing concerns over overcrowding. As the park continues to encourage visitors to enjoy outdoor recreation, current beach crowds continue to exceed park capacity by more than 10 times, lengthening emergency response times. In addition, the beach is not supervised by lifeguards.
The beach car park can accommodate 109 vehicles. Parking outside the area is unsafe for park guests due to the 200 foot elevation change to access the beach. Golf cart transportation will no longer be available.
Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park is one of 45 state parks in Kentucky that offer a variety of outdoor recreational activities, including hiking and biking, that Kentuckians can enjoy.
