When making plans to visit St. Maarten and St. Martin, it is important for visitors to know the island's basic hours of operation for banks, shops, and other places travelers may need to visit while on the island.
When visiting the Dutch side of the island, travelers will find most banks in St. Maarten are open Monday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and then from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. In the French St. Martin, banking hours are every weekday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. These hours may seem a little awkward to some travelers, so it is important for vacationers to know the banking schedule so they don't miss out on making their transactions.
Hours of operation vary from store to store, and what part of the island you're on. While on the Ditch side of the island, Philipsburg's stores are usually open on Monday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m. or 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Few shops are open on Sunday. In Margiot, on the French side of the island, vacationers can shop on the Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. or 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Although there open a little longer than the stores in St. Maarten, the shops on the French side sometimes close from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The post office hours in St. Martin, which is located in rue de la Liberte, are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and in St. Maarten, the post office hours of operation are also Monday through Friday, but from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
