All-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean are a popular way for families, couples, and groups to enjoy an island virtually worry free. All-inclusive resorts are customized and designed to allow guests to have a vacation that includes amenities, activities, dining, and accommodation, all in one place.

Envision spending a morning scuba diving, discovering colorful and varied marine life. Follow this with an afternoon on a beach of luminous white sand contrasted starkly by the saturated blue of the sky and water. Dinner is international cuisine, and the night brings with it a casual evening of drinks at the casino. This vision could describe a typical day at any classy all-inclusive resort in the Caribbean.

All-inclusive resorts cater to vacationers looking for a convenient and elegant experience in St. Martin and Sint Maarten. They offer the advantage of being self contained complexes, where guests have little need of traveling outside of the resort area during their vacation. Some offer a number of restaurants, from buffet style family affairs, offering various types of cuisine, to elegant and refined international culinary experiences where the waiters are both knowledgeable and efficient. A few resorts have even more restaurants, independently run, in their immediate vicinity.

If the repose of an idle day spent with the ocean lapping at your toes does not suit you, all-inclusive resorts also offer other amenities and activities which allow guests to maintain active lifestyles while on vacation, all within the grounds and area of the resort. Many resorts will offer a health and fitness center, and some will even have day spas that are included in the price of your bill.  Activities, in groups and as individuals are also generally offered, from classes and tennis to jet skis and snorkeling.

At night, the all-inclusives continue to offer convenience and enjoyment to their guests, as many have bars, dance clubs, and even casinos available to their guests. Many of the all-inclusive resorts are designed for families and couples, so while there is usually an opportunity for nightlife, it may not always satisfy the adventurous socialite. Many of the resorts will be specifically customized to cater to a certain type of vacationer, so conduct research on the type of experience that a hotel provides.

Travelers should carefully consider both the style of vacation they want, and the price of an all-inclusive as they make their decisions. All-inclusives allow vacationers to enjoy St. Martin and Sint Maarten at a relaxed and easy pace without the worry of transportation. Lodging, meals, taxes, services, and even tips are all usually included in one bill. While the average price of a double room or suite at an all-inclusive resort will be significantly higher than the price of a room at a hotel, vacationers need to factor in the additional money that they would spend on food and other activities, as well as money that will be saved if you are not renting a car. Dining and transportation costs can add up over an extended stay on the island and all-inclusive resorts can offer some savings.

When factoring in price, be sure to research exactly what is included in your bill. Often, different meal plans are available, and sometimes they will not include drinks or a full set of three meals. Be sure to find out if all taxes and service charges come included with the bill as well. Tax and service charge on both sides of the island can run about 20 percent. Always be thorough. Call the hotel to find the best deals and to be clear on the bill, extra charges, and any other hotel policies, such as minimum night stays. Keep in mind that the all-inclusive rates that you are quoted, will usually be per person, per night.

Travelers who prefer to explore the local culture and cities, or who want to escape from tourist centers, may opt for quieter villas or small and intimate hotels. While all-inclusives offer convenience, some may feel insulated from local culture and cuisine while staying at one.

While St. Martin and Sint Maarten are not overrun with all-inclusive resorts, there are options for travelers staying on either side of the island.

The Resorts

Sonesta

There are two Sonesta resorts in Sint Maarten: Sonesta Great Bay Beach Resort and Casino, and Sonesta Maho Beach Resort and Casino. Sonesta Great Bay Beach has recently been renovated to provide visitors with the best Sint Maarten has to offer.  Meanwhile, Sonesto Maho Beach is the largest resort on the island - situated on 10 acres and housing over 500 rooms.  Each resort offers guests meals, activities, entertainment, shopping opportunities, and nightlife.

If you are looking for service, convenience, relaxation, and recreation, an all-inclusive resort may be a good option while vacationing in St. Martin and Sint Maarten.
